Attendance & Absences

Reporting absences to the school

Protecting the safety and well-being of children through the reporting and monitoring of absenteeism is the responsibility of both parents/carers and schools.

Please notify the school if your child is absent from school.

If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence by emailing us at absentee@nsgrovedale.catholic.edu.au

Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.

All Victorian schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence.

If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained and an SMS message will be sent to one or both parents/carers.

It is important that you contact the school, leaving a message on our absentee line 52 430 502 on receiving this text message, to confirm your child’s absence.

If you feel your child should be at school please contact our office immediately.

This system also promotes daily school attendance. Missing school can disadvantage student learning significantly.

Please remember it is your responsibility to contact us to provide an explanation for your child's absence from school, and wherepossible, please inform us in advance of upcoming absences.

Note: Your child must be signed in by a parent/carer at the office if they arrive any time after the 9am bell. If this procedure is not followed you will receive the absentee text message.
