Health and Physical Education

At Nazareth, we believe Physical activity is vital for a child’s development and lays the foundation for a healthy and active life

We believe that we are ideally placed to foster the development of good physical activity habits early in life which will continue to grow and develop into the future. Health and Physical Education at Nazareth is based on promoting a healthy lifestyle and attitude towards physical activity. Our school believes that the Health and Physical Education program sh

ould focus on students enhancing their own and others’ health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity.

Our Program includes a variety of teaching sequences including fitness, balls skills and games, athletics and cross country. All students from Foundation to Year 6 participate in a whole school intensive swimming program held at the Geelong and Aquatic Swimming Centre. Students work closely with Austswim trained staff, building a deeper understanding of how to stay safe around water. Students also focus on developing their swimming skills across a variety of strokes such as freestyle, backstroke and breastroke. Students from Years F-6 compliment the swimming program by participating in an open water safety program delivered by Surf Life Saving Victoria. Our school is a member of the North Geelong District School Sports Association (NGDSSCA) which sits under the School Sport Victoria Banner. Students in Years 5/6 are provided with a range of opportunities to compete in regular competitions against other Catholic schools in the region in sports such as Athletics, Basketball, Football, Netball, Soccer, T-Ball, Softball, Lightning premierships, Round Robins and Friday afternoon interschool sports. Individual students and teams which are successful in these competitions have the opportunity to represent Nazareth at District, Division, Region and State levels.
